This year, London will be getting a new neighbourhood; London City Island by EcoWorld Ballymore. The 12-acre island on Leamouth Peninsula will be home to English National Ballet and The London Film School as well as 1,700 new homes and a variety of restaurants and retail spaces. The first restaurant to move onto the island is The Island Grocer and you can experience it first and learn some new cooking skills at an exclusive Hemsley + Hemsley workshop.
Taking place on Saturday 4th March, sisters and authors of The Art of Eating Well and Good + Simple, Jasmine and Melissa Hemsley, will be teaching you how to create the perfect Italian-inspired spring feast. The five-course menu is free from gluten, grains, refined sugar and hydrogenated vegetable oils and will celebrate nutritious, seasonal wholefood ingredients – it also starts with a beetroot Bloody Mary!
Learn to make the likes of bagna cauda (an Italian vine workers dish from Piedmont) and a hearty sausage ragu served with spiralized celeriac – got to get your 5-a-day in. You’ll be sitting down with Jasmine and Melissa to enjoy the four-course meal as it unfolds and to finish on a sweet note, you’ll be served spicy lemon and turmeric tea with wedges of warm castagnaccio – a classic chestnut bake which is infusetd with orange zest and rosemary.
Of course, you can’t leave without a goodie bag and they’ll include a Hemsley recipe book, apron and your jar of sauerkraut and chilli kraut which you’ll have made during the afternoon. Having picked up a whole host of new skills there’ll be no reason not to make 2017 nutrition packed.
Tickets are £50 including VAT each and there are two workshops on Saturday 4th March, one at 11:30am and one at 5:30pm
